E6 TMR: Membrane Transporters & Resistance
The team of « Pharmacokinetics » has been working in the fields of public health and veterinary medecine in responses to the societal expectations in terms of sustainable therapeutics in livestock and food security. For several years, our research has focused on anthelmintic drugs and we have studied their behaviour in host organisms of agronomic interest. It has been evaluated by the scientific committee (2006-2010) and it is part of the scientific strategic scheme of Animal Health division of INRA.
Given the role of the multidrug ABC transporters in pharmacology and toxicity, it is important to identify the factors that modulate their activity and their expression. Moreover, these transporters are involved in the mechanisms of resistance to drugs in tumor cells and also in target pathogens. Altogether, these aspects justify strengthening research on mammal transporters in the context of TOXALIM and they are also relevant to moving our research towards nematode or insect transporters in order to improve targeting strategies and reducing the impact of drug resistance.
